Summer Camps... So many to choose from: science, art, acting, recreation, sports, etc. ... how do you choose?
As a parent, you have to weigh many factors: cost, your kid’s desire to do the camp, parents' need for time to work (or just time free of kids), furthering your child’s sport or hobby, etc. I enjoy hearing about all the camp options, all the great local people and companies offering new things for the kids to do, and I get to live vicariously through my kids (I never did much summer camp as a kid).

One of the main reasons I choose a camp is to further my kids' favorite interests. Whether it is acting or rock climbing, I like to see my kids get to do the things that make them the happiest and build their skills at the same time.
Now, as a business owner whose company facilitates youth activities I have to think about summer camp in a different way - what can I offer that is unique and will further Boost! Leadership’s goal of building leadership and life skills in Alameda youth.

This summer I have settled on three weeks of camp: "Games Galore" - learn and play lots of new games and then help lead a games fest at the end of the week, "Summer Fun" - all the things summer should be, and "6th Grade Here I Come" - preparing incoming 6th graders with skills to ready them for this new chapter in school. Each week provides unique opportunities for youth to learn about leadership, to challenge themselves, and to have fun!
I feel good about all my choices this year - my kids will get to attend some fun camps and my company will further it’s mission. Take a minute to tell me about your decision process and what your favorite summer camps are, maybe your comments will help another parent in their planning.
Have fun planning your summer - with so many great choices for camps in Alameda, each kid is guaranteed a fun and fulfilling summer!
