The Breeders: How Did We Get Here So Fast?

I'm not ready to start calling him as toddler, but I am a little excited about it.

As of next week, I will have been a blogger for the Patch for one year. The same week, The Kid will be 11 months old. That means that in the blink of an eye he will be 1 - I will have a 1-year-old.

And I'd be willing to bet that come his first birthday, The Kid will be walking, which means we will officially have a toddler.

Those when we couldn't believe the doctors and nurses just let us take him home even though we had no idea what we were doing seem like yesterday, but also miles away. Our little eating-sleeping-pooping machine is now cruising around the coffee table, with a sense of humor and his own little friends — and pretty soon we will be singing "Happy Birthday" to him as he smiles his adorable heart-melting smile and bounces to the melody because even more than he loves .

Thankfully, this last year has brought lots of other babies into our lives who have already been ushered into toddlerhood. We spent the first three months of this year with a first birthday party nearly every weekend, so I'm starting to get used to being surrounded by kids instead of babies. I managed to only tear up when we sang "Happy Birthday" at the first birthday party, but I make no promises that I will stay dry-eyed a month from now.

And as sad as I am to see their babyhoods end, I've gotta say toddlerhood is really, really fun. Squeals of delight over picking your first flower beats colic cries any day. I have a feeling this summer is going to be a blast.
