Tide-y Up Breakwater Beach

King Tide brings in more trash to Breakwater Beach at Alameda Point.

Over at Alameda Point's Breakwater Beach next to the Encinal Boat Ramp, the King Tide seemed to have added to the royal mess that has been accumulating on this beach for years.  A visit to the beach around noon today revealed a much higher than normal amount of pulverized styrofoam pellets.  I'm not sure if the tidal action created more individual pieces by pulverizing large chunks, or if the high tide merely acted as a cleansing action for the Bay.

Either way, it illustrates the saying, "If Earth was a rental, we'd never get our deposit back."  Maybe next spring we can add this beach to the coastal cleanup effort.  This area, officially called the Inner Harbor, acts as a catch basin for all sorts of floating debris, mostly plastic.  In contrast, barely ten feet away on the other side of the breakwater, the riprap and water is as clean as a mountain lake.
