The VA and Navy have prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment document that describes the purpose, need for, and evaluation of the potential direct, indirect and cumulative impacts on the human and natural environment.

The project plans have undergone changes since the VA first presented its plans on the USS Hornet in 2008. The preferred plan now calls for locating the clinic further north on the runway area, and a jointly operated Department of Defense and VA ambulatory surgical hospital is no longer in the plan.

The public is invited to attend either or both of the two open identical meeting sessions where the VA and Navy will describe this proposed undertaking and accept comments at the meeting and through April 19, which was extended past March 29.

The VA's website also said a third public meeting will be held to provide an additional opportunity for the public to receive information and comment on the Draft EA.

When: Wednesday, April 10, 2013 4-7 p.m.

Where: Albert H. Dewitt Officers’ Club, 641 West Redline Avenue

Full details about the project are located on the VA's website.
