News about the 2nd annual Wiggle Waggle Walk, an update on Rascal and more from Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter

Wiggle Waggle Walk: Get ready to wiggle, waggle and walk with your dog next month. The second annual Wiggle Waggle Walk will be held at the Harbor Bay Ferry Building on Saturday, June 15th from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. Registration for the walk and pet festival is $25 per dog. Dog lovers who are currently without a canine friend are invited to come and enjoy being surrounded by more than 150 happy, wiggly dogs.
Lots of fun activities are being planned for all ages, including a doggy fashion show, contests and much more. The highlight of the day will be a scenic one-mile walk along the bay. Walkers are asked to collect pledges for cash donations to FAAS. Participants who collect $50 or more in pledges will receive a goodie bag stuffed full of treats. The person raising the most money in pledges will win a 3-night stay at a beautiful Tahoe home.

Rascal Update: Last month we told you about a darling little terrier who came to the shelter as a stray needing special hip surgery. The appeal for donations to the Angel Fund to help Rascal generated more than $3,000 to pay for the procedure. Rascal has had his surgery and is recovering nicely in his foster home. His foster home will be adopting Rascal as soon as he is available. This is truly the best possible success story for this cute little dog. Thank you to everyone who gave generously to save Rascal’s life and give him a second chance for life in a loving home.

Maddie’s Adoptathon: Get ready for another action-packed weekend of free adoptions June 1st and 2nd. FAAS and other shelters in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and Santa Clara counties will be hosting two full days of free adoptions of all cats and dogs in the shelter. FAAS will have pets available at two locations: the Alameda Shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way and the Bay Fair Mall in San Leandro (close to the children’s play area in the mall). Adopters should bring proof of home ownership or their lease indicating they can have pets, and everyone in the family must be there to meet the pet prior to adoption – including any other dogs in your household if you are adopting a dog.
Kitten Kottage Opening Soon: FAAS will be opening our beautiful little Kitten Kottage just in time for kitten season. The building was moved from the old Berkeley Animal Services site to FAAS and has been spruced up by volunteer Chris Blair and a handful of dedicated individuals that Chris asked to help. New kitten condo kennels have been purchased with a generous donation from another wonderful volunteer. The Kitten Kottage will house up to 8 litters of kittens while they wait comfortably for their new forever homes. Stop by the shelter and ask to visit the new Kitten Kottage.
