Business Bits: Barber Shop, Bike Rentals
Summertime changes in Alameda's business landscape: a new owner for Dick's Barber Shop on Webster Street and a pop-up shop at South Shore renting bikes and beach gear.
Summertime is bringing some changes to the Alameda business scene.
At 1547 Webster St., new owner Robert Talarico will be taking over at on Aug. 1. Long-time owner Dick Denton is retiring after 54 years at the same location.
The shop will now be open Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon, as well as Wednesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Talarico says.

"I have met many of Dick's patrons and I hope I can continue to serve you with the same great service Dick has provided for the past 55 years," Talarico says. "Come by and have a cup of coffee and say hello."
Bike and Beach Gear Rentals

At , Pedal Beach Rentals, LLC has opened a seasonal bike and beach rental supply shop, according to a press release from Jamestown, owner of the shopping center.
The shop occupies a repurposed shipping container and is located between and . It will be open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., throughout the summer months.
Pedal Beach offers bike, beach chair and umbrella rentals and sells beach supplies such as sand buckets, kites, beach towels and sunscreen.
Bicycles for rent include one-speed cruiser bikes as well as tandems and cargo bikes. Bicycles will be offered for rent by the hour, half-day and day, shop operator Vanessa Laymon said.
