Local Lore: Home Tour Panoply- Four Decades of History and Design: Wednesday, September 8th, 2021, 6:30 PM. Four Decades of Alameda Home Tours: Beguiling Glimpses into the Past including Architectural Styles; Heritage Neighborhoods; and Before-After Transformations. Coiffed ladies and dapper gents in vintage costumes will enhance the experience. These ideas and more will be enriched by presenter Realtor Denise Brady, a dedicated preservationist and expert in Bay Area architecture from the era of Queen Victoria to the noble simplicity of the 1960s. Me, Myshelf, And I: The Alameda Free Library Book Club for Fans of Memoirs and Biographies. Join the Alameda Free Library’s new Biography and Memoir Book Club - Me, MyShelf, and I, for a literary discussion! This month’s title is Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. Copies are available in our Alameda Free Library collection and through our LINK+ library partners. A limited number of free copies, provided by the Friends of the Alameda Library, will be available. Affirming Queer Identities: Two Sessions: Grades 9-12 - Thursday, September 16, 2021, 4:30 PM and Grades 6-8 – Thursday, September 23, 4:30pm. The Alameda Free Library invites you to the “Affirming Queer Identities Workshop” for Teens, facilitated by Pacific Center for Human Growth. This workshop will create space to explore how our queer identities are affirmed in media and provide an opportunity to uplift our identities using art. Queer space and allies welcome! This is a Teen only event, no registration required. The workshop will be at the Alameda Free Library’s Main Branch in the Stafford Room from 4-5:30pm. Ongoing Event Descriptions:
Teen Book Club: Teen book club members choose what we read from a variety of titles and genres each month and every book club member gets a free copy of the book to keep. This month’s title is The Loop by Ben Oliver. All teens, ages 13 to 18, are invited to join the book group. Registration link is on the calendar. Zoom link will be emailed 24 hours before the meeting. Sneak Peek Saturday: Alameda Free Library's special reading program featuring general adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Join us every other Saturday on YouTube for a virtual adult story time. Teen Advisory Board: Do you wish the library would do more events and programs that you’re interested in? Have you been anxiously awaiting a new book and you want the library to buy it? Do you need an impressive membership to put on your applications and resumes? Join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to let the library know what you’re interested in. The Teen Advisory Board is your chance to make a difference in the library for yourself and other teens in Alameda. Members of the Teen Advisory Board will plan be involved in planning Teen programs and choose teen events. Teen Advisory Board members will earn community service hours for every meeting and event that they participate in. Alameda Library Writers’ Group: This group is open to all adult writers looking for a space to work and an opportunity to connect and share with other writers. Whatever your genre - you are welcome to join the group. Bring your ideas and laptop (or pencil and paper) and start writing. Please enter quietly. Sharing at the end for those interested. Alameda Library Book Club: The Alameda Library Book Club meets every 2nd Monday at the Alameda Free Library. Meetings are currently held via Zoom. Everyone is welcome to participate. Lawyers in the Library: The Lawyers in the Library program provides free 15 minute consultations with a volunteer attorney who will provide guidance on legal matters. Examples of areas covered include landlord/tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems and other general consumer issues. Please see online calendar for dates and locations.
