DA's Office Warns Residents About Scam

The District Attorney's Office said it never calls with a demand for money or payment.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — The Alameda County District Attorney's Office is warning people about a scam in which people who claim to be from their office are calling people and demanding cash.

The District Attorney's Office said the callers leave messages or speak to the individual answering the phone and address the call recipient by name and supplies a correct date of birth.

The office said the caller claims to be collecting on a payday advance loan with a case number and demands that an immediate cash payment be wired or the person will face arrest, prosecution and wage garnishment.

It said any such calls are a scam and the public is warned not to wire or otherwise send money in response to such calls.

The District Attorney's Office said anyone receiving a similar call demanding payment may report the attempted fraud to the their office by calling (510) 383-8600.
