Day Trip: Riding the Steam Trains in Tilden

Step aboard the steam trains for a delightful ride through Tilden.

Chugging across the upper ridge of Tilden Park, the steam train rocks and clatters along the rails, pulling its passengers through the redwood trees as it follows its circuitous route.

Plumes of steam are discharged, as the little engine labors under the commands of its friendly engineer who pulls on the whistle as riders cheer enthusiastically.

In existence for almost 60 years, the steam trains are a perennial favorite, offering young and old alike the pure fun of a bygone era.

Summertime is the sweetest season for a ride, and at $3 for one ticket or $12 for five, it’s easy to justify a few trips.

So pull out your railroad dungarees, throw on your engineer cap, and visit the Redwood Valley Railroad Station, where you can step aboard one of their steam trains for a fanciful tour through some of Tilden Park’s best scenery.
