Americana Night - Mike Stadler/Mary Gibbons Band, Emily Bonn and the Vivants, The Red Shoes
Come on down to Urban Island for a great evening of Americana music, with the Mike Stadler and Marry Gibbons Band, Emily Bonn and The Vivants, and The Red Shoes.
The Mike Stadler and Mary Gibbons Band are a fine gathering of highly experienced musicians who pull together to find the common ground between early Country and Bluegrass and to include original material and contemporary songs suited to such a goal. The band features the clean, intricate harmonies of Mike Stadler and Mary Gibbons stacked atop a bed of dynamic acoustic instruments and pedal steel guitar.
Emily Bonn and The Vivants are largely inspired by the energy of old-time dance tunes, honky-tonk country, and western swing to create their own brand of American roots music, shining up dusty melodies with modern arrangements. In former incarnations, Emily performed in San Francisco subway stations, Belgian prisons, Appalachian corner stores, and at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. The Vivants include stellar performers, Jody Richardson on fiddle, foot percussion and vocal harmonies, James Touzel on upright bass, and Isaac Bonnell on piano accordion.

The Red Shoes are the cello/fiddle duet of teen-aged sisters Lucia and Flavia Purpura-Pontoniere. Both girls began their musical training at age 6. After years of Classical training, they began to play jazz and fiddle music. Currently, they focus on arranging traditional fiddle tunes for their instruments. Lucia and Flavia have performed at the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, the Berkeley Old-Time Music Festival, the San Francisco Farmer’s Market, and KPFA.
