Fire At Homeless Camp In West Oakland Monday

The plume of smoke could be seen a long way from the fire.

OAKLAND, CA — A fire at a homeless encampment at Fifth and Market streets in West Oakland was controlled at about 10 a.m. Monday, an Oakland fire dispatcher said.

A large plume of smoke from the fire at the encampment underneath Interstate Highway 880 near its intersection with Interstate Highway 980 blew high up into the air and could be seen for miles.

The dispatcher said no injuries have been reported from the blaze.
