Four Rescued in Boat Fire Near Ferry Terminal

Alameda firefighters and U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued four people from a boat that caught fire near the city’s ferry terminal Tuesday afternoon. The fire on board a 30-foot wooden luxury cruiser was reported around 4 p.m. near the ferry terminal at 2901 Main St., according to Alameda Fire Department spokesman Juan Medrano.

The boat was found drifting about 100 yards from the ferry terminal dock with four people on board and light smoke visible. The Coast Guard got the passengers off the boat and towed it to the terminal, where Alameda firefighters were able to put out the fire. The fire was contained to the engine compartment and damage was estimated at around $15,000. The cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported. Firefighting operations prevented the San Francisco Bay Ferry from landing there and delayed ferry operations by about an hour, Medrano said.
