Free Prescription Drug Drop-Off in Alameda
Got unused or expired medications? Dispose of them safely right here in Alameda.

ALAMEDA, CA — If you have unused prescription or over-the-counter medicine languishing in a cabinet, you can rid of them for free right here in Alameda.
The City’s first has a public pharmaceutical disposal bin in the front lobby of the Alameda Police Department at 1555 Oak Street. You can use it seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Chief of Police Michael Noonan says, “We want to give our residents a safe and secure location where they can properly dispose of their prescription medications. Not only are there environmental concerns, we also don’t want dangerous prescription drugs ending up in the hands of our children.”

To protect your privacy, take the pills out of prescription bottles that have your name and other information on it. Instead, put them in a resealable bag before drop-off.
In addition to pills, you can dispose of liquids in their original containers, medicated ointments and lotions and medications for pets.

Not allowed: vitamins, needles, batteries, thermometers, or illegal drugs.
