There are many unique challenges and benefits to growing older. Besides concerns about your finances, you may have other changing aspects of your life that need attention. To help you understand your legal rights in the situations you might face, the California Bar Association has put together an informative and easy to understand guide called "Seniors & the Law." This publication includes general and legal information about:
- Making ends meet, including info on Social Security and Reverse Mortgage
- Payment assistance for utility and other bills
- Health care
- Finding a trustworthy caregiver or nursing home
- Veterans' assistance and resources
- How to avoid being the target of scams aimed at seniors
- Elder abuse and how to get help
- And more
To help the seniors in my community understand their rights and learn more about the resources available to them, I've ordered several copies of "Seniors & the Law" to give away for free. I can send them by U.S. mail or can drop them off to seniors at a local (Alameda) meeting place, with absolutely no charge for the publication or for mailing/delivery.
