Friday Night Classical Series: Ensemble Alcatraz

A thrilling new series of classical concerts takes place on Friday nights this spring at Rhythmix Cultural Works

Presenting songs from medieval Iberia, including the seven Cantigas de Amigo of Martin Codax, selections from the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Alfonso X (El Sabio), inspired instrumental elaborations and more.

Ensemble Alcatraz has been presenting innovative performances of medieval and Renaissance music from Spain, Portugal, France and Italy since 1984. Based in the Bay Area, the group has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Inspired by the court of Alfonso X of Spain — where musicians, writers, scientists and philosophers mingled in a spirit of collaboration — Ensemble Alcatraz is dedicated to recreating the rich blend of spirit and imagination that thrived in Medieval and Renaissance Europe.
