Gun Recovered During Alameda Search

Residents were asked to shelter-in-place during Tuesday night's search.

ALAMEDA, CA — A shelter-in-place order in parts of Alameda Tuesday night frightened many residents who turned to social media for information.

Alameda Police sent a Nixle informing residents of them of the actions, "Residents on Northwood and Cambridge area were requested to shelter in place due to heavy police activity in the area. All others were requested to avoid the area as well. The 1700 block of Cambridge and 2900 block of Northwood were searched with both a K9 and police helicopter for a suspect in the area. The areas were cleared via night vision, helicopter, and K9."

While the shelter-in-place order was still in effect, APD Capt. Owyang wrote on Facebook that a "firearm from the suspect has been located already."
