It's Never Too Late to Start Exercising

Tips for Seniors Take Center Stage at Local Wellness Carnival

More than 80 seniors gathered at the Waters Edge Lodge in Alameda to participate in a free Senior Wellness Carnival on Tuesday. The goal was to show seniors how exercise, even just a little bit, helps lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, obesity and demonstrate it's never to late to get started. Studies show, those who exercise are likely to live five years longer than peers who do not exercise.

AES Therapy and Fitness Annual Wellness Fair featured local health experts and trainers who worked with attendees through a series of carnival-themed games. The experts performed personalized assessments and offered tips how seniors could enhance their wellness in relation to strength, balance, memory and their ability to perform activities of daily living, among other things.

Local Alameda businesses came in support the event, including the Friends of the Alameda Animal Services with its senior support animals and Alameda Hospital with blood pressure and glucose tests. Other services included Chinese medicine evaluations, all-natural facials and experts in emotional wellness, aromatherapy and more. The afternoon ended on the patio along the waterfront with DJ entertainment and a healthy catered lunch.
