Junior Midget Wolverines Keep Winning!
Alameda Pop Warner football team, Junior Midgets, take sixth win.

Alameda’s Junior Midget Wolverines met the Castro Valley Gladiators this past Saturday at San Leandro’s beautiful Burrell Field.
The Wolverines entered the game with a winning record of 5-0; including three shutouts, one forfeit, and only six points scored against them all season. This Pop Warner team slayed the Gladiators, leaving the field with a final score of 24-0, and their fourth shutout of the season.
Exceptional play by the Wolverine’s defensive line, Mell Davis, Auggie Tautalatasi, Caleb Kendricks, Robert Steffani, and Timm Ross held the Gladiators to just two first downs.

Alameda linebackers Jaylen “Fresh” Ison, Teddy Oliver and Kyle Arndt, and secondary Taylor Vann, Donavan Eubanks and Montrell Smith plugged holes and all but shut down the Gladiator pass-attack; including an Oliver-interception on the one yard line, to end the Gladiator’s longest drive of the day.
The Wolverine offense, expertly led by quarterback Max Onaga, opened with a three-play, fifty-yard drive that included the longest run of the day and the first touchdown, both by Ison. This was followed by a Wolverine onside kick recovered by Montrell Smith.

In the second quarter, Max Onaga took the lead again with the longest drive of the game; including thirteen plays with four first downs, and ending the half with an Onaga keeper for a touchdown. The first half ended 12-0, Wolverines.
After a scoreless third quarter the Wolverines took control with a fumble recovery by Ison on the Gladiator’s three yard line. Auggie Tautalatasi found the end zone on the next play to put Alameda up 18-0. After a Gladiator turn-over on downs the Wolverines drove and scored on a pass play, Onaga to Kendricks for the final score of the day.
Alameda battled the Gladiators with eight different ball carriers, including game leaders Oliver, Ison, and Makai Dennis. The Wolverines’ offense equaling their team’s defense in strength and power.
This week Coach Alex James brings the Junior Midget Wolverines home, to Alameda’s own Encinal High School, where they’ll play the Los Gatos Panthers on Saturday, October 17th.
