Kite Surfer Drowns Off Alameda

The drowning happened late Friday afternoon.

ALAMEDA, CA — A kite surfer getting an early jump on weekend fun drowned off Crown Beach on Alameda late Friday afternoon, according to Alameda Fire Department Capt. Jim Colburn.

Bystanders performed CPR on the victim until Alameda Fire Department paramedics arrived and took over. Paramedics took the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Colburn said Alameda police are investigating the death. Rescuers from multiple agencies responded to the scene.
