Nea Senior Izabella Anguiano-Jacobs Earns Scholarship to CCA

Alameda, California – Izabella Anguiano-Jacobs, (Bella) a senior at Nea Community Learning Center (Nea) in Alameda, was awarded a scholarship to California College of the Arts (CCA). This opportunity will enable her to continue to refine her artistic talents and learn more about digital animation.

Bella got serious about her art 7 years ago, when she started practicing on a daily basis. Although she is mostly self-taught, in addition to her high school art classes she attended foundation classes at the Disney Museum in San Francisco. Last summer, she decided to enroll in the pre-college program at CCA to gain even more training and further develop her skills.

Although Bella enjoys painting, drawing and sculpting, she has decided her focus at CCA will be in digital animation. With her particular interest in the animation industry, Bella says she enjoys, “ Looking into the giant puzzle of animation and how each individual piece goes into a specific spot.” She particularly likes building a story from the ground-up and is looking forward to her training on the process, art and props that go into building an animated film or story.

Some of Bella’s influences come from artists such as Zenas Windsor McKay, an early 20th century American cartoonist and animator and Henry Patrick Raleigh, a prolific Gatsby-era illustrator. She sometimes uses their work as inspiration for her projects.

Bella has been attending Nea Community Center for 7 years; since she enrolled as a 6th grade Learner (student). Katie Reyes, who has been Bella’s language arts Facilitator (teacher) in grades 6, 9, 11 and 12th has seen her trajectory not only as an academic person, but also has watched her develop her own style. Katie noted, “Bella is able to integrate the arts into everything she does, which makes her work both engaging and responsive.”

Bella has been named an “up-and-coming artist to watch” and has had her work presented in galleries in Alameda. During the Alameda Art Walk in March her work was displayed at Nofu Skin Studio, and included artist reception catered by Pacific Fine Food.

Bella has accepted CCA’s offer of admission and scholarship, and is looking forward to enrolling in the digital animation program. She wants to hone her artistic skills and continue to learn more about the process of animation with a goal to have a successful future in the Arts.
