Oakland Public Library Awarded $3.8M In Grants
The African American Museum and Library and the Brookfield Branch Library will receive money for critical infrastructure repairs.
OAKLAND, CA — The Oakland Public Library will receive $3.8 million in infrastructure grants, library officials announced Thursday.
The African American Museum and Library at Oakland will receive $1,689,314, and Brookfield Branch Library will receive $2,148,333 from the California State Library's Building Forward Library Infrastructure Grant Program.
The funds were awarded to support critical maintenance and repair projects.

The grant approved for the African American Museum and Library at Oakland will be used for improvements to the fire suppression and security systems, to install new a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, upgrade electrical panels and service and repair historic windows, the roof and drainage, officials said.
The grant approved for the Brookfield Branch Library will be used to repair and replace damaged siding, walls, insulation and roof, install a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, replace windows and sewer lines to make additional repairs.

The projects will be managed by the City of Oakland and the Office of Public Works.
Grant work on the projects must be completed by March 31 of 2026.
