One Dead In Oakland House Fire
A second person was taken to the hospital after firefighters rescued them from the middle-of-the-night fire.
OAKLAND, CA — At least one person has died and another suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries following a fire at a home in Oakland early Monday morning, according to fire officials.
The blaze was first reported at 4:12 a.m. in the 30 block of Malta Court, Battalion Chief Tracey Chin said. Fire crews arrived to find a home fully involved and she immediately called for a second alarm.
A total of 36-40 firefighting personnel, including air support, fought the blaze and were able to get it contained in just under 90 minutes at 5:34 a.m., Chin said.

Fire crews entered the structure to find one resident dead, according to Chin. The other resident was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Chin said the fire also damaged some of the home next door, but the extent of which it was damaged wasn't immediately provided. It appeared the home at which the fire originated was undergoing remodeling, per Chin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
