Scam Warning From Alameda Municipal Power
"AMP will never ask for credit card or debit card numbers..."
ALAMEDA, CA — If you receive a phone call from a person who claims to be from Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) and they demand a credit card or debit card number to pay your bill immediately or they will disconnect your electricity — hang up and call the police department to file a report. It's a scam, according to AMP.
"AMP will never ask for credit card or debit card numbers and only provides automated courtesy calls to accounts that are already delinquent," AMP is warning customers. "If you have any doubts, don’t give out any information."
If you have any questions about whether your bill is up to date, call the AMP customer service department 510-748-3900. If you need the number at a later time, look it up yourself. Never call a number given to you by a caller — it may be part of the scam.
