Shelter In Place Order Prompted By Family Dispute

Several blocks of Alameda were blocked off for several hours as a result of the issue.

ALAMEDA, CA —A family disturbance followed by a shelter-in-place order and several blocked-off blocks in Alameda Friday night ended peacefully with no crime committed, a police sergeant said today.

At 9:45 p.m., police got a report of a disturbance in the vicinity of Pearl Street and Otis Drive, Alameda police Sgt. Darin Tsujimoto said.

Officers arrived within six minutes of the call, Tsujimoto said. Because the call mentioned a person who was armed, police issued the shelter-in-place order for residents, directed people to avoid the area and diverted traffic from Otis Drive.

After interviewing members of the family, "it was determined that a crime had not been committed," the sergeant said. Tsujimoto would not give further details about the disturbance, citing privacy concerns, but said, "We are providing resources to the family."

The shelter-in-place order was lifted at 2:07 a.m. Saturday.
