Sprouts & Shutters: Bike Rental Place Opens For The Season in Alameda

A place to rent bicycles and beach gear is opening this weekend.

Pedal Beach Rentals will set out its equipment once again, starting on Saturday.

The stand is located on Shoreline Drive, behind the South Shore Center and next to the McDonald's.

Owner Vanessa Laymon said they put out their umbrellas when they're open and take their bicycles out of their shipping container.

You can also rent deck chairs and beach umbrellas as well as buy T-shirts, sand buckets and other beach-related items.

Pedal Beach started last July 4th and closed in November for the winter.

Laymon said they'll be open on weekends and holidays for now. During the summer, they're open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
