Woman Faces Murder, Elder Abuse Charges in Shooting of Sleeping Man

Emmanuel Emmett Christy was found dead in an upstairs bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head, investigators said.

ALAMEDA, CA- An Alameda woman accused of shooting a man while he slept last week has been charged with murder and elder abuse, Alameda County prosecutors said today.

Donna Marie Qualls, 54, was scheduled to make her first appearance in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland this morning following her arrest on Thursday in the death of Emmanuel Emmett Christy. Alameda police Detective Alex Keden said in a probable cause statement filed with the court that Qualls called police at 10:19 a.m. Thursday to report she had shot someone. Officers arriving at a home in the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue found Qualls and a male relative inside the home.

Christy was found dead in an upstairs bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head, Keden said. In an interview with investigators, Qualls confessed to shooting Christy while he slept, Keden said. Qualls remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail and is being held without bail.
