Extra Patrols Around Albany Middle School Monday

ALBANY, CA — A man was shot to death on the Ohlone Greenway Sunday, just a few blocks from Albany Middle School. As a result, the superintendent of Albany Unified School District, Val Williams, requested extra police patrols for the school and surrounding area today.

Parents should speak with their children about the incident to see if they are afraid. If so, school counselors are available to help.

Williams sent the following letter to parents and the greater community —

Dear AUSD Community:

Late last night, I was notified that a man was fatally shot on the Ohlone Greenway about two blocks from Albany Middle School. According to the Albany Police Department press release, this occurred earlier in the day. I asked Police Chief McQuiston for a police presence in the area this morning as students came to school. APD had police officers patrolling the area near AMS and the Ohlone Greenway. School and District administrators were also in front of AMS and at the intersection to provide additional support and to monitor the area.

As always, our first concern is for the safety and well-being of our students. Your child may have questions or may feel nervous about walking to and from school. Our school counselors and administrators are available to respond to students.
