Girls Softball: The Sting Takes Second at Rebel Classic

Michael Saaf, president of the Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League, shared this report about one team's recent performance at the Rebel Classic in Rohnert Park.

After undefeated play in last Saturday's three-game seeding play, the  12-and-Under Sting team won two more games to reach the championship game in Rohnert Park's Rebel Classic Softball Tournament on Sunday.

The Sting faced the Santa Rosa Hackers in the title game, and it was scoreless through two innings. Santa Rosa scored first in the third inning on a single, walk and two errors, but the Sting came back in the top of the fourth.

Adi Saaf singled and was driven home by Miya Keilin's double to left-center. The score was 1-1 after three and a half innings.

Robyn Wampler started at pitcher for the Sting, and held Santa Rosa in check thanks to strong outfield play by Lila Simpson and Sierra Jimenez. Wampler gave way to Miya Keilin, who relieved Wampler in the fourth to squash a Hackers rally.

The score stood 3-1 Hackers as the Sting came up in the top of the seventh, the final frame.

Aida Baron walked and Sierra Jimenez singled to put the tying run on base with one out. The Sting kept fighting, but the Hackers' tough pitching and stingy defense slammed the door to preserve the victory.

The Sting batted .370 over the weekend, with 11 doubles and three triples in six games.

Congratulations to the Sting 12U! Head Coach, Mattison Peters; Assistant Coaches, Katie Vickers, Jason Kaneko and David Wampler; Players: Aida Baron, Griffin Campbell, Claire Fargeix, Derby Gill, Briahna Jackson, Sierra Jimenez, Claire Kaneko, Miya Keilin, Isabel Lavrov, Quinn Lewis, Grace Rusin, Adi Saaf, Lila Simpson and Robyn Wampler.
