Lifting the ban would open the floodgates on it, study finds (oaklandside.org) — Albany sits inside the study area for a major Caltrans review of whether to lift the long-standing heavy-truck ban on I-580, which could shift pollution and traffic patterns across the corridor. The study projects thousands of new truck trips on 580, modest relief for 880, and heightened concerns from nearby residents about air quality, crashes, and wildfire evacuations.
