Sausalito Chief Appointed Emeryville Police Chief

Jennifer Tejada will replace Ken James, who served as Emeryville's police chief for 16 years but retired on June 30.

Sausalito Police Chief Jennifer Tejada has been appointed to be Emeryville’s new police chief, Emeryville officials said. Tejada’s first day on the job in Emeryville will be Sept. 15, Tejada, 52, will replace Ken James, who served as Emeryville’s police chief for 16 years but retired on June 30.

David Hall has been serving as interim police chief since then. Tejada has been police chief in Sausalito for the past four and a half years. Prior to that she was an officer with the Novato Police Department for 15 years.

In announcing Tejada’s appointment, Emeryville officials said she is recognized around the state as a strong advocate for community policing and in 2013 she received the James Q. Wilson award in community policing. Tejada is vice chair of the legislative committee for the California Police Chiefs Association.
