Worker Injured at Berkeley Construction Site
The worker was at the site of an eight-story building under construction.

BERKELEY, CA — A worker was injured at an under-construction building in Berkeley this morning, officials said.
Berkeley firefighters responded to the accident at 9:30 a.m. and took the injured worker to the hospital, according to Deputy Fire Chief Donna McCracken.
It happened at 1974 University Ave., at the corner of Milvia Street, where a new 8-story residential and commercial building is under construction, according to the state Division of Occupational Safety and
Health.

Cal/OSHA investigators are looking into what led to the accident.
According to initial reports to the agency, a steel beam was being hoisted and broke an employee's leg.

The employee's injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to McCracken.
Once completed, the building will house 98 residential units, including eight low-income units, 8,700 square feet of commercial space and a 76-space parking garage, according to building plans submitted to the city.
