Preakness Stakes 2011: Post Positions, Odds and Our Pick
Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom looks to win the second leg of the Triple Crown. Locals can watch the simulcast of the big race at Santa Anita Park.
The gates will open at 9 a.m. Saturday at as the "Great Race Place" expects a solid local crowd to come out to watch a simulcast of the running of the 136th Preakness Stakes.
The Preakness Stakes, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, is the second leg of the Triple Crown of horse racing. . Does he have what it takes to win again? Oddsmakers sure think so, pegging him as the heavy favorite at 2-1.
If Animal Kingdom wins Saturday, he'll become the first horse since Big Brown in 2008 to capture both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Big Brown went on to lose in the Belmont Stakes, which is the last leg of the Triple Crown. The last horse to claim the Triple Crown was Affirmed way back in 1978.
Saturday's race sports a 14 horse field with several of the contenders--most notably Midnight Interlude--having raced at Santa Anita during its past meet., ensuring a bid in the Preakness.
