• Atascadero CERT to offer preparedness training class (knews985.com) — Atascadero's Community Emergency Response Team is offering a 24-hour disaster preparedness course at Colony Park Community Center, with sessions running Oct. 6–17 and FEMA certification upon completion. Residents will learn first aid, basic rescue, home protection, and flooding readiness as El Niño approaches, with a $40 fee for Atascadero residents and simple in-person or online registration options.
   

• Driver accused of killing man, unborn baby in Cuesta Grade crash enters plea (sanluisobispo.com) — A driver accused of causing a deadly wrong-way crash on Highway 101's Cuesta Grade has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges after a collision that injured Atascadero resident Christyna Railsback and killed her unborn baby and another passenger. Prosecutors say he faces life in prison, with his next court hearing set for Oct. 13.
   

• Obituary notice: Betty Lou Geiwitz, 94, of Atascadero (pasoroblesdailynews.com) — Atascadero residents are informed of the passing of 94-year-old Betty Lou Geiwitz, who died at home in town on August 27 surrounded by family.
