• Contreras tapped to lead San Luis Coastal Unified (pajaronian.com) — Avila Beach families in the San Luis Coastal Unified School District will see new leadership when Superintendent Heather Contreras takes over on July 1, 2027. The board unanimously approved her three-year contract after a contentious but thorough search, citing her experience handling budget challenges, while some teachers raised concerns about her record and the hiring process that trustees say included extensive community input.
   

• 'Quite an inconvenience': San Luis Obispo residents react to upcoming FedEx closure (ksby.com) — A FedEx shipping center on Fiero Lane in San Luis Obispo, heavily used by nearby Avila Beach residents, will close in early February 2027 as part of a nationwide consolidation. Locals worry the remaining downtown Chorro Street location will be far less convenient, especially due to parking costs and congestion, though FedEx says services and some employee positions will be maintained.
