According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, on the night of the shooting, the agency received numerous calls after multiple shots were heard near Glen Canyon Lane and Burwood Avenue in Victorville. The location is near Ojave Vista Park and the Rosales family residence.

When deputies arrived at the location, they found Jeremy in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. The Oak Hills High School teen was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Following Jeremy's death, the community held a candlelight vigil in his honor. Hundreds turned out, some in Oak Hills High School football jerseys. Others wore t-shirts bearing Jeremy's nickname, "Tank." The affectionate moniker reflected Jeremy's large size on the field.

Jeremy's sister told abc7 that her brother also possessed outsized compassion.

"He is number 32 on the field," she said, "but number 1 in our hearts forever."

A GoFundMe page launched for Jeremy's family had raised over $15,000 as of Tuesday afternoon.

"Tank was more than a football player," the page read. "He was a great kid with an infectious smile, a loyal teammate, and a brother to so many who stood beside him on the field. He showed up with heart, grit, and humility, always lifting others up and embodying what it truly means to be part of a team. To those who played football with him, Tank wasn’t just a teammate, he was family.

"His loss has shaken our community to its core," the page continued. "The pain felt by his family, friends, and teammates is profound, and no words can fully capture the sorrow of saying goodbye far too soon."
