Banning Fire Spreads To 75 Acres: Canyon Incident Video, Photos

A fire is burning near the area of the Banning bench.

BANNING, CA – Smoke was billowing into the sky in Pass Area Thursday, as a brush fire broke out near the area of the Banning Bench and quickly burned dozens of acres.

Fire officials tell Patch that the blaze was in the area of the 11000 block of Mias Canyon Road. As of 11:50 a.m., an estimated 5 to 10 acres of grass had burned, and the fire was growing at a "moderate" rate. Within an hour, it had grown to 50 acres. It's since been dubbed the "Canyon" incident.

By 3 p.m., the size estimation had grown to 75 acres, fire officials reported. It was 30 percent contained.

At the peak of the firefighting efforts, 130 firefighters, 14 engine companies, two air tankers and a helicopter were among the resources assigned to the blaze, officials reported.
