Big Win Celebrated By Beaumont Students At Robotics Competition

The San Gorgonio Middle School 'Robotic Ponies' received top honors for their research.

BEAUMONT, CA — A group of middle-schoolers were honored this week by Beaumont Unified School District for their recent win at a robotics competition. The San Gorgonio Middle School 'Robotic Ponies' received top honors for their research.

The group of students took part in the Lego Cup Tournament at Legoland, which was themed "Hydro Dynamics" this year. For the event, the students were given a challenge — identify a problem that has to do with water — and from there they were to find a solution to that problem.

The students identified an issue that many of them have experienced: not being able to easily fill up a water bottle at water fountains, according to their instructor.

They first took their work to a qualifying event in Apple Valley in November, where they placed first out of 16 teams. From there, they advanced on to the Legoland competition where they scored a 4th place win out of 66 teams during the Lego Cup Tournament.

What's more, they placed first in the "project research" category for their creation to help students fill water bottles at water fountains.
