According to California Highway Patrol Officer Juan Quintero, Tynon was headed eastbound on Van Buren "at a high rate of speed" in a Nissan Pathfinder, when his vehicle collided with a Honda CRV attempting to make a left turn.
The Pathfinder then struck the semi headed westbound on Van Buren, Quintero said.

The big rig driver tried to swerve, which caused the truck to jackknife off the roadway. The preliminary investigation showed the semi driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to Quintero.
The big rig and Honda drivers were hospitalized as a precaution, Quintero said.
The semi sustained major damage and spilled some of its load onto Van Buren, and the four-lane corridor was closed between Opportunity Way and Meridian while the big rig was removed and the area was cleaned up, which took about three hours.
