To get her started, Beaumont High School senior Rodlyn Hume-Dawson has received a $40,000 scholarship from Edison International.

BEAUMONT, CA — A Beaumont High School senior has received a $40,000 Edison International scholarship to further her academic pursuit of STEM studies, and she is planning to invest the education opportunity in something that benefits every creature on Earth.
Rodlyn Hume-Dawson will study mathematics with an emphasis on solving climate change issues, she said.
"With the help of different mathematical formulas," Rodlyn explained via YouTube, she will help produce technology that more accurately predicts future weather patterns.

The future scientist is hoping to attend either Stanford or a University of California school; at the time of her YouTube video, she was still awaiting acceptance letters.
The $40,000 scholarship, paid over four years, will alleviate some tuition concerns for Rodlyn and 29 other 2022 high school seniors just like her. They are all part of an elite group being awarded a total of $1.2 million in scholarships from Edison International. The scholarships are intended to help the students pursue science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) studies at a four-year accredited U.S. college or university.
The 30 graduating seniors all live in Southern California Edison’s service area. They will be celebrated at a May 6 reception held at Southern California Edison headquarters.
"Congratulations to the 2022 Edison Scholars. They represent a diverse group of exceptional students who plan to pursue studies in STEM fields and create a better world," said Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International. "My teammates and I are very proud that Edison International provides this support for deserving students. I wish them success in college and look forward to seeing how they plan to use their education. Our industry can certainly use their passion and commitment as we work toward a clean energy future that is equitable and affordable for everyone."
