Running at about four minutes, the video’s debut on the District’s website (www.banning.k12.ca.us) offers a glimpse into the classroom and a look at how school counseling, therapy, and mindfulness meditation strengthen students’ emotional health. Banning Unified offers free individual and group therapy sessions with parents’ approval.

“We believe in educating the `whole child,’” said Board President Jason Smith.

Helping students discover their calling

Please check out the District’s video and you’ll see how Banning Unified encourages all children to discover meaning in their lives. Many students will go on to universities, community colleges, and career technical education. Others might enter the trades, join the military, or start working after high school.

“Enlightening Young Minds!” shows youngsters learning Mandarin at Central Elementary School and spotlights a new $26 million Career and Technical Education facility under construction at Banning High School. Every student at Central Elementary takes Mandarin as an enrichment course each week to help them learn two languages. In about two years, a 27,000-square-foot Performing Arts Center, including media and TV production facilities, and a 12,000-square-foot Construction Academy for skilled trades will welcome students.

Deep roots and a proud heritage

The District’s new video also captures our long legacy, which dates back more than 140 years to the days of one-room schoolhouses in America. In Banning, education started with just 14 students in a one-room schoolhouse!

Now almost 150 years later, Banning Unified covers 300 square miles, including Cabazon, Whitewater, Poppet Flats, the Morongo Reservation, Snow Creek, the Banning Bench, and the City of Banning. In all, the District serves more than 4,500 students from preschool to twelfth grade.
