I have been watching Beaumont City Council meetings twice a month since the new council was elected in 2014. Over the past four years, it has truly been amazing to see all that this council has accomplished in such a short time. I have also listened to many respectable citizens speak to the Beaumont mayor and city council members during the "public comments" time. Most of those who speak are able to respectfully and articulately express their concerns and opinions to the public and the council.
And yet, in spite of all the hard work that so many people have put into improving life in Beaumont over the past four years, we continue to hear nothing but pure hatred and vitriol from Libi Uremovic. Tonight's meeting was no different. Actually, tonight's meeting was a little different. The level of hateful speech, combined with such ugly and immature personal attacks, was truly abominable. It is hard to understand why there is not a bailiff in the room to remove such a disruptive person from a public meeting.
And yet, in spite of how annoying it is to listen to Ms. Uremovic, it is also sad to see someone with so little self-respect and so little self-esteem. I feel sorry for someone who is not able to treat others with dignity, respect and kindness. I realize most folks probably do not care enough - or have the energy to speak out against her unacceptable behavior - but I really wish she would not be allowed to speak during "public comments" unless she is able to do so with respect and kindness.
