Reche Fire Claims Home, Evacuation Warnings Remain In Place

UPDATE: The fast-moving wildfire scorched 437 acres, and was only 50% contained by around 9 p.m on Saturday, officials said.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A fast-moving wildfire that erupted in an unincorporated area of Riverside County near Reche Canyon on Friday had burned through more than 400 acres by Saturday morning, claiming one home and prompting evacuation warnings throughout the area.

The brusher — dubbed the Reche Fire — scorched 437 acres and was 50% contained by around 9 p.m. on Saturday, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. Friday in the area of Reche Canyon Road and High Country Drive, according to fire officials. By 3 p.m., nearly 300 ground and air firefighters were assigned to the brusher.

The area where the blaze started is lightly populated with both single-family dwellings and mobile homes; however, the fire was pointed in the direction of a larger community bordering the Badlands.

Multiple engine and hand crews from the Riverside County Fire Department, Idyllwild Fire Protection District, Cal Fire-San Bernardino County and other agencies were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a rapid rate through medium brush.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

An evacuation order encompassing the area south of Reche Canyon Road, west of Locust/Trust, north of Alta Vista, and east of Reche Vista Drive/Perris Boulevard was reduced to a warning as of 8:10 p.m. Friday.

An evacuation warning was also in place north of Ironwood, east of Perris Boulevard, south of Alta Vista, and west of Moreno Beach.
