RIVERSIDE, CA — An 8-year-old Riverside girl needed ten stitches to her forehead after riding Twisted Colossus at Six Flags, but it wasn't the ride but a guest's loose cell phone that was the culprit, the family says.

The Evans family of Riverside was on their first-ever visit to Six Flags in Valencia for the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Evie Evans,8, rode the giant coaster with her mother for the second time that trip. During the fast-paced ride, a cell phone flew out of a passenger's hand and struck her "squarely between the eyes," NBC4LA reported.

"It was really scary," Evie told NBC4LA. "I was screaming and crying."

When she removed her hand from her forehead, she was bleeding from an open gash, they said. They were shuttled to first aid and then ended up with their daughter in the emergency room.

The family wanted to know who was responsible for such injuries while at the amusement park.

NBC4 reports that Guest Relations, security, and the local authorities had no answers for the Evans family, who are seeking help to cover Evie's medical care from the incident.

Her father described the incident to NBC4 as being "like a hit and run crash."

Six Flags Magic Mountain released a statement saying "Our ride safety policy strictly prohibits all loose articles on rides. Safety is a partnership between our guests and the park, and all guests must follow all written and verbal instructions for safe riding."

According to Cal/OSHA’s public information officers, the Amusement Ride and Tramway Unit is looking into this incident and is in communication with Six Flags to determine what occurred.
