SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — People dreaming of a white Christmas may be in luck in Southern California this week — but you may need to trek up into the mountains to experience it.

Monday's snow showers are expected to continue into Tuesday morning for elevations above 5,000 feet. Then, Christmas night Wednesday, snow is forecast for elevations above 4,000 feet, meaning that areas including Big Bear, Idyllwild and the San Gabriel Mountains are likely to be blanketed with up to several inches of snow.

"Since it will be colder, the potential exists for heavy snowfall in all of our mountains above 4000 feet with some travel impacts likely in the passes," the National Weather Service wrote. "In addition, this system has the potential to dump several inches of snow over the high desert areas."
