Banning residents stay vigilant... A number of community mailboxes in our neighborhood have had locks smashed and contents removed by crooks. A postal person on a delivery route near 8th Street said, "It's going on all over town, it may take weeks to repair the damaged boxes." This type of criminal activity occurs often around this time of year with IRS W2's being sent out, these are identity thieves' golden tickets. Keeping your credit card/bank information mailings paperless or online is a safer measure. If you see suspicious activity, report it to police. Mail theft is a federal crime.
