'Trunk Or Treat' Planned At Beaumont Sports Park

Looking for an alternative to door-to-door trick or treating?

BEAUMONT, CA — If you need a safe and fun place to take your Trick-or-Treaters this year, stop by a Trunk or Treat event at the Beaumont Sports Park. That's the message from Beaumont police, who are encouraging costumed youngsters to head over to the event with their families and friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Beaumont Sports Park is located at the corner of Brookside and Beaumont avenues. The event is sponsored by the Beaumont Police Department, City of Beaumont and Grace Fellowship.

Costume Tips:

  • Purchase costumes made of flame retardant material.
  • Keep hemlines short enough to prevent tripping.
  • Select costumes made of light color material and also use glow in the dark reflective tape.
  • Choose face paint/makeup instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.
  • Do not allow children to carry sharp objects that could cause injury to themselves or others.
  • Trick or Treat Tips:
  • Use battery powered lights in pumpkins.
  • Instruct children to stay away from open flames.
  • Remove objects from the yard that present a hazard to children (garden tools, hoses, etc).
  • Keep cornstalks and other harvest-season items away from sources of heat.
  • Stay in groups while visiting door-to-door.
  • Carry glow sticks or flashlights to be seen easier by drivers.

  • Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks.
  • Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.
  • Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.
  • Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.
  • Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to
  • the left as possible.
  • Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.

Driving Tips:

  • Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods - children are excited and may move in unpredictable ways.
  • Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
  • Eliminate distractions inside your car so you can concentrate.
  • Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic, and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.

Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert during those hours.
