Two Arrested in Beaumont Corruption Probe Post Bail

One of those bail amounts was set at $5 million.

BEAUMONT, CA- A day after seven former high-ranking Beaumont officials were charged in a wide-reaching alleged embezzlement scheme, most of them remained behind bars. However, two of the men were free on bail, according to booking records.

Patch has learned that as of Wednesday afternoon, the city's former planning director, David Dillon posted his $5 million bail. The Temecula resident had been at the Southwest Detention Center for less than a day.

Also out on bail is Beaumont's former police chief. Francis 'Frank' Coe, who had self-surrendered at the District Attorney's office on Tuesday, posted his $100,000 bail the same day, according to jail records. His brief stint behind bars was at the downtown Riverside jail.

Former City Manager Alan Kapanicas, former City Attorney Joseph Aklufi, former Finance Director William Aylward and former Public Works Director Deepak Moorjani all remained behind bars in lieu of $5 million bail, records indicated.

The seventh man named by the district attorney in the alleged $43 million public corruption scheme, Ernest Egger is expected to be arrested on Wednesday, according to the District Attorney's office. His bail will also be set at $5 million.
