UC Santa Barbara Beautiful Campus ~ and Our Graduates of 2014

Top Paid Major for the 2014 Graduating Class ~ 8 out of 10 . . .

Engineering.  Engineering majors take 8 out of the top 10 slots from the recent salary survey conducted by the:  National Association of Colleges and Employers. As stated by the data, this survey was conducted from those graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 2014. I bring this up as graduation is soon around the corner, and because yesterday I participated as a Mentor, in a Mentor Session which was part of an all day program at my alma mater, UC Santa Barbara ~ where we celebrated our 6th Annual Communication Career Day, it was our 30th Anniversary.

This was my second year returning to UC Santa Barbara, second year participating in the Communication Department Career Day.  I enjoy it, I love listening to the students, and in turn learning from them;  this also gives me an opportunity to return home ~ Goleta/Santa Barbara.  This weeks LLLeindecker & Associates Blog was going to be about our ~ University Students ~ and how fortunate we are in this Country to have such a wonderful future generation of Americans.  However, this morning I received an email, so I decided to mix this blog up a bit, and now will share additional statistics, fascinating numbers.

Engineering as far as I can remember has always been thee degree of earning power, Communication degree, my degree was no where on this list of the "Top Paid Majors" ~ no surprise, back in the day it wasn't event a major.  There were two other majors that topped the bachelors money making list: Puter Science, and Management Information Systems Business.    Here is the list of the 8 Engineering Majors with their corresponding salaries: Petroleum Engineering: $95,300 - Computer Science: $67,300 - Computer Engineering: $66,600 - Chemical Engineering: $66,000 - Mechanical Engineering: $63,100 - Engineering Technology: $63,000 - Electrical/electronics and Communications Engineering $62,300 - Management Information Specialist: $62,100 - Civil Engineering: 62,100.

I say congratulations to our Engineers.  They study no less, and I can say no more ~ I say no more because students work so hard, and it is their passions that direct their field in most cases.  I believe it is their choice, their passion. Students on a Saturday were doing their job ~ studying, communicating, reading, working, working on their laptops.  Their goals, they seemed to have them.  They were there for a purpose, doing their job ~ going to school. Your degree can be Communication, Puter Science, Management Information Systems/Business, Engineering ~ your salary when you graduate with a 4 year Bachelor degree may start you with a $95,300 career earning position; you may start at at $35,00 Communication Promotions job, you may write that Screenplay, be that Promoter, Project Manager for that high rise in Dubai.  The limit ~ there are no limits.  So as an adult I say the same, do not lose what we too are capable of. Our capability is still there, merely a different channel ~ perhaps a different route, a different branch in life.

Graduates going into our workforce in June 2014, and those from UCSB, and Kristina ~ you all are important, you however are not unique.  We are all the same.  Recommendations ~ find yourself a mentor, one that you will hopefully have throughout your career; ask questions - if you do not know something, say you don't know - but, find out; and bend, don't comprise. Sunday afternoon, for those who read my Blog thank you and ~ Best of Wishes ~ laura.
