My Thoughts on Spring Break

My thoughts on the upcoming spring break.

Spring break starts in less than 24 hours and I am very excited. I can finally record music as I have been wanting to for some time but could not due to golf, Chinese, studying, the Young Senators Program and playing jazz.

High school is an exhausting and programmed ordeal. Here is my daily school schedule, tell me if this is a little too much:

• Wake-up and start getting ready for school: 6:30 a.m.

• Arrive at school: 7:30 a.m.

• School, 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

• Golf match, 18 holes, 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (or later depending on start time)

• Finish homework, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• Study for tests or quizzes, 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

• Play guitar, 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

• Get to bed, 9:30-10:30 p.m.

This may not seem like a lot, but doing this over and over becomes monotonous and tedious. Spring break will be the exact opposite. Here’s what I think will happen:

• Wake up, 9:30 a.m.

• Sit in bed and watch TV, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

• Get up and eat breakfast, 10:30.m. to 11 a.m.

• Call the band; it’s time to record music (or go golfing, depending on everyone's schedules), 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Call other friends and hang out, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

• Rush home before curfew and frequent Mom texts, 10 p.m. to 10:10 p.m.

• 10:10 to 12 a.m. (or later, who cares?). Do what you want — it’s spring break!

Don’t get me wrong. I take satisfaction from my average school day. But because our school days in California are shorter than anyone's in the world, I, the student, must compensate for all of the information I don’t learn from limited instruction hours.

I don’t always enjoy being wound up in a tight, regulated schedule. I hope now that spring break is on the horizon, I can have a little peace before I finish up this year.
