DUI Patrol Set for This Evening

Long Beach Police effort will concentrate on drunk drivers.

The Long Beach Police Department plans to conduct a "saturation patrol" for intoxicated motorists tonight throughout the city.  It's scheduled for 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

"Saturation patrol" means that a number of officers will be concentrated in an area to look out for those driving under the influence of alcohol. The LBPD news release on the DUI patrol says that by publicizing the effort it "believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving."

Funding for the patrol is from  the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  And as always, the police encourage the public to call 9-1-1 if they see a driver who seems intoxicated.
